We are delighted to announce that our CEO Christian Lyons has scooped an award recognising his entrepreneurial achievements.

Christian won the coveted Entrepreneur of the Year category at the 2021 Global United Biz Awards. The award is given to the nominee who best demonstrates the use of effective and innovative leadership to strengthen the business. What makes it even more special is that it recognises his efforts over past year – with all the unprecedented demands of the pandemic.

In an emotional moment, Christian received his award virtually from TV presenter Stephen Mulhern – best known for hosting the new Catchphrase and spin-off shows for Dancing on Ice and Britain’s Got Talent.

Although he runs a further four businesses including The Family Practice Group and Brigstock Skin and Laser Centre, Christian is proudest of Communitas Clinics and the positive savings it has made for the NHS and the low wait times it has maintained following the pandemic.

He founded Communitas Clinics in 2009 with his wife, Dr. Nilu Vajpey to provide specialist NHS clinical services covering dermatology, ENT and teledermoscopy – the clinics now serve around 4 million patients at locations across the South East.

Christian’s passion has led to savings of around £8 million for the NHS over the past 12 years, with the clinics provided in community-based settings rather than NHS hospital trusts. And while NHS wait times were badly impacted by the pandemic, Christian is also proud that Communitas Clinics was able to respond really quickly by putting procedures and protective measures in place. Wait times are now down to just two or three weeks.

Some of the protective measures include bespoke screens that have been designed and manufactured to protect both patients and clinicians from infection during clinical procedures. In true entrepreneurial spirit, these screens were designed and manufactured in collaboration with a local school.

Although the award was for his individual performance, Christian says it is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in Communitas Clinics, including GPs specialising in Dermatology and ENT, Consultants, the experienced nursing team and dedicated clinical support and administration staff.

A huge congratulations to Christian on his well-deserved award.
